This personalized opportunity allows you to design a unique and meaningful away experience that combines your professional goals and interests.
Options
A student curated opportunity in which students create their own personalized learning platform. Students create three (3) semester long goals based on personal/professional/educational interest. Examples include: Website or application development, foreign language study, shadowing an industry professional.

The Office of Undergraduate Education has collaborated with The WiLD Leaders to provide a tailored opportunity specifically for Arch students. Students develop three (3) semester long goals related to leadership development, complete the 10 assessments/tools in the WiLD ToolKit, and work directly with a mentor during the semester. Students develop three (3) semester long career orientated goals and work with The Center for Career and Professional Development (CCPD) on career building modules/templates designed to make their semester away experience a valuable one. Modules focus on personal development, increasing marketability as a candidate for future internships, co-ops, civic engagement, and off-campus research opportunities. The CCPD provides oversight for this experience but students are expected to participate in the general ILE Self Design LMS course.
Requirements
Develop three (3) semester long career orientated goals.
Note: Students must satisfactorily complete a mandatory LMS course during their semester-away experience.

Process to Register a Self-Design Experience
- Log into sis.rpi.edu to record your Away Semester plan (Select ILE-Study at Another U.S. Institution)
- Complete the Arch Semester Away Registration form
- The Office of Undergraduate Education will review the request and route it to the appropriate academic HUB to determine appropriate course equivalence.
